Housing Sales on the Rise Nationwide

By David • December 2nd, 2009

Lawrence Yun, chief economist with National Association of Realtors, reported that home sales nationally rose by 7.2% June over July of this year. This seasonally adjusted rate of 5.24 million homes is the highest monthly increase in home sales in the last 10 years! Even more promising is the pending home sale index showing a strong rise. The index is currently at 103.8. The benchmark year of 2001 had a pending home sale index of 100. We have a long way to go but the housing market is improving. Now if only lenders would start working with the buyers of these pending sales contracts!
